Hi Jared, enjoyed your review of the Sony a7C R. I'm looking to purchase a versatile full-frame camera that can handle a variety of subjects - travel, street, portrait, landscape, as well as wildlife and bird photography. Do you think the a7C R would be a good fit for this type of mixed use? Or would the faster fps and dual card slots of the a7R V be better suited? I'm trying to decide if the extra features of the a7R V are worth it for my purposes or if the a7C R will meet my needs. Appreciate any advice you can provide. Thank you!
This depends highly on what your personal preferences are. If you are a professional needing a reliable workhorse for day-to-day gigs, A7R V has the extra features you need like the dual card slots, higher quality screen/EVF, and higher FPS shooting. If you are purely an enthusiast, travel frequently and lightly, or photography is your side-gig, the A7RC is definitely going to fit the bill for you, and the extra portability of the form factor will be an added bonus. I would just encourage you to buy quality SD cards to reduce the chances of a card failure. I’ve never had problems with ProGrade cards.

I have a7c and tested the a7cII and a7rv. For me, the weight of the a7c range is the max i can handle. I found the body of the a7rv too bulky and heavy. I cannot imagine to have this bigger camera on a pro gimbal. A7cII and a7cR are very good. I checked the new evf on the new model, the a7cII is definitely better than a7c (magnification is higher) and i found it very close to the a7rv. The a7cII seems to be the right body for hybrid shooting and price. If they had put the same price than a7c i would have try to upgrade but at this price i cannot afford it. Not a big deal, my a7c is very good to my opinion.
I think the 61MP stills with a 90mm macro G would do the job 99%, you could pixel shift but you wouldn't see too much of a difference, it might even oversharpen the negative/slide
@huntercoleman8036 Sony doesnt need to compete with Canon RF lenses. They're already in their own league and can let 3rd parties produce the 15-35mm focal range.
@harryvuemedia5106 I only buy g master glass. So I'll stick to the 12 - 24 2.8. How ever it's not just the 15 to 35. It's also the 35mm should have been a 1.2. As well as the 85mm

Like the size but too many shortcomings for a $3K camera (for me). Wish they had made the shutter quieter too. Yes I know it can shoot in silent mode, but that's electronic shutter and for faster moving subjects may have unwanted distortion. And this is more of a stills camera, and Sony could have implemented the very flexible screen design of the A7RV, far better for stills.
Yes. U are absolutely right. But u already know Sony. They would have to charge seven G, yes seven G just to make that custom flexible screen design for u. Who knows? Maybe, seven G is nothing for u. If so, maybe you'd better put in a custom order. 😎😎
I would be interested in seeing how it holds up in different weather conditions. We know the A7R4 and A7r5 have had some weather issues from time to time, and this body does not look as strong as the A7r5; so only time will tell. The price though is crazy indeed !!!!
This will be a third body for me I have 2 a1’s so this will be a great street and everyday camera for me. Dont worry about the single slot as much. This will be a camera that is always with me

I am also a left eye shooter. Sorry, but that viewfinder placement is complete non-starter, for me. It is not something I would want to try to get used to. I have shot with a friend’s Sony 6xxx something and it is not for me. I do not know why Sony would release something like this, or why any left eye shooter would consider buying it.
No, I need all the items in the menu. I like to customise my camera. Everyone has a different need. Less menu options would make the camera less appealing.
To me, a compact camera makes the most sense, if you can also get matching compact high quality lenses. Sony aren't exactly known for compact lenses as far as I know, so there is that. But sure, if I decided to get into a full frame mirrorless camera system, Sony would be at the top of the list, and the A7C R would definitely be an interesting option.
Oh, if I had a dream that I wish they could've put my A7R5 in my A7C body..... Well.... I guess dreams do come true! Gonna be a big smile on my face soon!
I wish SONY made a rangefinder style camera with fully blown specs like the A7R V, meaning using 9mp viewfinder, using a 2,1mp display, and actually make it bigger so no one would need to use the added grip. Silly SONY!
No. I did not wonder why your set was so empty! I already knew, the Gnome from Nome, Alaska told me the top secret of what goes on in Jared Polin's new studio: "Keep the place as empty as possible, keep the heat on the thermostat turned all the way down. Keep it like Santa's North Pole Workshop--As COLD as possible." That way even the Sony Fan Boys back at the factory will be exultant, yes exultant, jubilant with the results of your overheating tests of the new Sony a7C R camera! 😎😎
I guess it depends on which system you're in already, but for a little more I'd rather have the Canon R5 even as old as it is now. Why is Sony still dragging along at 7 to 10 fps even shooting electronic? If this camera could do 12 mechanical and 20 electronic it would make more sense. Sony shooters happy with low fps will be thrilled with this camera, but after shooting at 20fps I would be frustrated. That's a lot of smack for all the trade-offs imho.
The higher fps are compromised on none stacked, it’s 12bit and noticeable issues with RS making it rather useless for loads of the stuff you actually would use high fps for. high mech fps meaning 12-15 is in extended mode so there generally compromise not just bit but also often on Af, like lock on, evf refresh rate fake evf frames etc. It’s an endless list of compromises to get cameras like this to do high fps. It’s just never going to work very well. Do a stacked high fps and you never wanna ever do high fps of this type ever again. For majority having only 8-10fps just ain’t really an issue and those who want more probably just go with the older A9ii. I would not be surprised too see Sony do a A9iii in a A9C but at a 1k less. Personally lenses matters more, bodies are just going to be a constant levelling our or slightly leapfrog, I would never recommend Canon with their stands on thirpart choices
This looks like a great little vlogging camera or b-cam to the higher-end Sonys. I wish Nikon, Canon and Panasonic would step up their low-light game. Canon & Nikon's glass is superior, in my opinion, but Sony is beating them out with Autofocus and Sensor performance... Again, that's my opinion.
People always say that sony makes screen for their phones and tvs, so why aren't the camera screens better. Well they don't make those screens, they buy the panels from other manufacturers.
You are one of the best photo reviewers. I think that the A7CR should be priced at at least $500 less. If I had the choice (meaning, the money), I’d go with the A7RV, for better handling, better IBIS, and those dual slots.
Sony's AI focus algorithm favors FACES. Your dude doing the bating has his head and back towards the camera. The dude in the dugout is facing the camera. Of course the camera favors the dude in the dugout. The priority on HUMAN mode is EYES, followed by FACE, followed by human OUTLINE, followed by DISTANCE.
Sony is playing game with consumers. Sony intentionally didn't included some features. Those missing things will be added to A7CR ii - higher shutter speed, joy stick, one more custom button, may be the better screen(monitor).. So just wait for the second editon come out.....
5:37 If this camera were to be a NIKON, Jared's reaction to the AF fail would have been more epic but being a Sony, he played it down. The AF fail "happens every so often" but it "is not a major deal breaker", If that were to be a Nikon it would be a good reason for Jared to not recommend a purchase!
@@froknowsphoto I am only pointing out the inconsistency in your reaction to AF fails from one camera brand to another. There are several videos of you where you'd shred Nikon to pieces similar fails but it's all good.
Don't they have real-time backup to smartphones now? This would eliminate the con of not having dual-slot cards, which is a deal breaker for anyone with a brain.
What is the big deal? Sigma FP-L exists with the same (61MP)or better specs (and better video) some 1.5 years now. It's current price is under 2500$ and you can get it as a bundle with the extra EVF for just over 3100$. So you’re going to sneak into places like a spy… Sounds so ridiculous! I live in Las Vegas and nobody has ever stopped me from walking into any place with my camera.
@@2424rocket not sure if youre just bragging about being in vegas, or havent been to any live events anywhere else that state they dont allow cameras with removable lenses, but having a smaller camera body i can have on my person (because a lot of place have bag size limits) & not always in my hand will be great plus easier to pass off as a point & shoot.
Good point! And in general, people are not going to pay much attention to cameras that look like rangefinders.
Thx , liked this video. Pls do a follow-up of A7Cii vs A7CR for video, using production models, thx.
Will definitely have to wait and watch what Cannon and Nikon have in response to Sony’s 7cii
Has A7cR a focus bracketing as a A7r5 ?
Those 2 dusts on the sensor (4:40) is just killing me :()
Will the Fro Packs work on LR mobile apps ?
Jared is there any way you can put the new grip extension on the A7RV? Is it possible?
no the new grip extension ONLY fits the 2 new a7Cii and a7CR cameras.
do you think that the 240mp pixel shift is over-kill for digitizing 35mm kodachrome slides
I think the 61MP stills with a 90mm macro G would do the job 99%, you could pixel shift but you wouldn't see too much of a difference, it might even oversharpen the negative/slide
@@weeniehut4703 thank you so much for replying I will also look at that lens
@@blueishxx I use it for my slides on my A7RIII and it's a great lens! Highly recommend for at home scanning
thank you do you have a youtube channel
Looks amazing but I think I saw people complaining that it has a fake shutter sound that you can't turn off, which could be annoying.
Mang, 2 new cameras and an GMii of 16-35, Sony is on a roll!!
Should have been a 15 to 35 instead. They really need to get on board with competing with canon glass.
@huntercoleman8036 Sony doesnt need to compete with Canon RF lenses. They're already in their own league and can let 3rd parties produce the 15-35mm focal range.
@harryvuemedia5106 I only buy g master glass. So I'll stick to the 12 - 24 2.8. How ever it's not just the 15 to 35. It's also the 35mm should have been a 1.2. As well as the 85mm
@@huntercoleman8036 i have all 3 brands from Sony, Sigma and Tamron. I plan to add Rokinon to my arsneals too. There are a lot of people who cannot afford G-master lenses, they have cheaper options like Rokinon, Sigma and Tamron. 3rd party support is the reason why people are goign with Sony and why others are switching over to Sony. And yes, Sony is upgrading their older lenses to keep up with their mirrorless cameras and fix the flaws of the 1st models.
@@huntercoleman80361.2 is only a third of a stop more than 1.4, I feel it's quite overrated. You pay so much more for that, and the lens is heavier and bulky.
I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. Does the a7CR have focus bracketing like the a7RV? If not, that is something that I just don't understand.
from what I have seen it does have focus bracketing.
Hello folks. Looking for advice here. I have my a7rv and also a7c as my secondary. Considering upgrading my a7c, but not sure whether to go for cII or cR. Thanks for all the suggestions in advance!
Between A7CR and 7R5 , which one is better?
The more expensive one
i just bought one, can someone show me how to use it??? plzzzzz
Idk which one is more crippled, A7CR or the small APSC thing I don't care to remember
Great review man , well done. 🎯
How's the build quality?
I have this camera! All body is made of metal (magnesium)!!! Super quality!
Yeah I just bought the a7cii, all metal... Unlike the cheap plastic back on the a7iv.
Amazing video as always!!!!!
I would be interested in seeing how it holds up in different weather conditions. We know the A7R4 and A7r5 have had some weather issues from time to time, and this body does not look as strong as the A7r5; so only time will tell. The price though is crazy indeed !!!!
Crazy $$ High indeed. Unless u have so much extra cash & care to throw some my way. Thanks, I'll take the burden off your poor soul. 😎😎
This will be a third body for me I have 2 a1’s so this will be a great street and everyday camera for me. Dont worry about the single slot as much. This will be a camera that is always with me
To me this is perfect for travel!
Hi, can someone help me to choose between this one or the A7RIV /A7C2 for sport photography, i know the 4RIV/ A7C2 is 10Fps and the A7CR is only 8 but (that matter that much?) i like the 61 Mp to crop the image and move the people to where i want, PLEASE HEEEELP
Somebody make an SD adapter that holds 2 micro sd cards, or a 2 core SD card.
the CF Express type A card is too expensive.
Yes, something Sony users often seem to forget to calculate in total cost. I think this camera uses SD cars though
I am going to buy one. Credit card in hand. October 12 according to BH.
Oops. Took me until today.
Just to be sure, "R" stands what for, Steve?
Excellent ! Thanks ! you are clearly an advanced member of your species .
Jared, I'll see you next Wednesday in NYC! 😃
Bro! Love the new set!
No, I need all the items in the menu. I like to customise my camera. Everyone has a different need. Less menu options would make the camera less appealing.
hello jaran polan your photos are amazing
Jared, Wasn’t it you writing text for this video? Watch review of a7c v1 again and feel the difference.
Yes they are compact lenses compared to others, plus 3rd party too. You haven't been paying attention to 2nd gen lenses.
Sony has a very good range of very small lenses as well as some small Signa lenses for Sony
Sigma i-series primes are perfect for these new a7C's
@@fwiler Sigma all the way
Oh, if I had a dream that I wish they could've put my A7R5 in my A7C body..... Well.... I guess dreams do come true! Gonna be a big smile on my face soon!
The Fro Pack rules!
Shame Sony doesn't do a 28mm pancake, could be a good street photography camera. Would it give the leica a run for its money?
Sigma 19mm prime and use it in APSC mode with the A7C's
Great Video!!
Going with this. Cancelled the order I had just made for the A7rv
Sony has a great lineup. I can't wait to see what Canon will offer
Time for Canon EOS R5 II
Time for a killer photo-only camera. The whole hybrid camera movement has gotten old.
@@DESIGNS-vo1mt not for me! The Canon R5C has changed the game for me.
THAT AF IS NICE AF
People always say that sony makes screen for their phones and tvs, so why aren't the camera screens better. Well they don't make those screens, they buy the panels from other manufacturers.
bahahhahahah you owe SAR an apology! 🤣🤣
I want an A7C S
In 2023, a camera that can’t even do 8 fps in uncompressed raw… Even the a73 can do 10fps uncompressed.
R8 is a better buy imo
Hey Jared how come you don't review any fuji products I'm a fuji shoot and would love to see some fuji content on here otherwise great content man.
I miss the highlight color dipped in paper lol
In Europe $4000 The most interesting bits of the A7R5 It certainly hasn’t got .
I dont know. I just don't feel like this is good for $900 less than the a7RV. Too pricey for everything that was cut
Agree about the screens -another reason why phones are winning
Micro SD card, I Zee what you did there Jared ;)
You are one of the best photo reviewers. I think that the A7CR should be priced at at least $500 less. If I had the choice (meaning, the money), I’d go with the A7RV, for better handling, better IBIS, and those dual slots.
Sony's AI focus algorithm favors FACES. Your dude doing the bating has his head and back towards the camera. The dude in the dugout is facing the camera. Of course the camera favors the dude in the dugout. The priority on HUMAN mode is EYES, followed by FACE, followed by human OUTLINE, followed by DISTANCE.
Going to wait for the Sony A7CA1 😅.
Oh you totally got me. Caught red handed. Not even close dude. Stop trying to defend a lemon.
That’s not a substitution, you’re not sending 100 gigs to your phone in seconds.
why not? Is the connection slow? can't it do this automatically? or do you have to do it manually?@@froknowsphoto
What is the big deal? Sigma FP-L exists with the same (61MP)or better specs (and better video) some 1.5 years now. It's current price is under 2500$ and you can get it as a bundle with the extra EVF for just over 3100$. Which gives you a better articulated EVF (3.7mil dots) better rear screen (2.1mil dots) and an even smaller body. But of course, it's not a "SONY"...
